Tagged again

I just noticed that I was tagged a few days ago by Wandering Mind so here goes:

Clothes Shop: Realistically I haven't shopped for new clothes in months due to a lack of funds so I can't answer this realistically....so I'll have fun and say if I had oodles of money I would buy things by Catherine Malandrino, Diane von Furstenberg, Blumarine, and Project Runway's new winner Leeanne and runner-up Korto.

Furniture Shop: I just bought things for my new place from IKEA since they proved to be extremely economical and I had a small budget. However, if I won the lottery I would shop at ABC Carpet and Home even though things there are wickedly overpriced. And I would take inspiration from all the gorgeous photos on An Indian Summer.

Sweet: I don't have a large sweet tooth. Once in a while I like those Pepperidge Farm cookies like Milanos, my mom's mango and regular kulfi, Zingerman's chocolate cake and Palmiers, creme brulee, Lindt pistachio chocolate, and Marshall Field's Frango mint chocolates (Are these available anymore?).

City: I love New York!

Drink: Chai, sweet lassi (plain not mango flavored), my mom's Kanji, Indian coffee, lattes, Coca-Cola, and thandiya (cold Indian drink made from powder....can't find the proper spelling), sugarcane juice

Music: I mostly listen to podcasts nowadays, but my iTunes includes Sarah McLachlan, U2, Smashing Pumpkins, Alicia Keys, Alanis Morissette, Bally Sagoo, The BoDeans, Coldplay, Dido, Cyndi Lauper, Ennio Morricone, India Arie, Josh Groban, Kate Voegele, Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosle, Louis Armstrong, Michael Penn, Morphine, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Peter Gabriel, Rabbi Shergill, Simon And Garfunkel, Tina Turner, Yo-Yo Ma, Tori Amos, and BHANGRA!

TV Series: Ever since I got DVR I watch way too much television. There are so many good things on tv though like Real Time With Bill Maher, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, The Colbert Report, Gilmore Girls, Frasier, No Reservations, Project Runway, Oprah, Sex and the City, Damages, General Hospital, Murphy Brown, The Cosby Show, Barefoot Contessa, Gossip Girl, Priviledged, Charlie Rose, Ace of Cakes, Grey's Anatomy, Tim Gunn's Guide to Style, Family Guy, Entourage, 60 Minutes.

Film: My all-time favorite movie has always been Naseeb. Amitabh Bachchan has three names in this movie! I think I have the entire dialogue memorized. Other than that other classics in my library are Beautiful Girls, To Kill a Mockingbird, Goonies, Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham, Children of Heaven, The Namesake, LA Story, Clear and Present Danger, Star Wars, and Mohabbatein.

Workout: Next thing I need to get going on this week.

Pastries: I will direct you up to the Sweet section.

Coffee: Hazelnut or desi style

Normally I like being tagged, but this one is hard for me to write.

1. I don't know what is my actual oldest memory rather than something I have been told or images from photos I've seen. So I will say when I was in montessori preschool I remember going to the nailpolish set and doing my nails. I find this memory funny and odd. In my preschool pictures I have my nails painted. That would make you think I'm such a girly girl and I'm not.

Ten years ago I think I was working with women with severe personality disorders who cut and burned themselves and who were constantly in crisis. It was a very humbling job and one I will never do again. Social work is an industry strife with dysfunctional case workers. While I worked with and for some really good people I also worked among some colleagues that really needed to complete their own personal work before venturing out to help someone. The first time I met one of my colleagues she asked me to interpret her dream about her father chasing her and also that she believed she was clairvoyant and was doing readings on my clients.

2. My first thought today was I'm glad I'm getting up earlier than usual.

If I built a time capsule I think it would include letters from and photographs of the people I care about, my mom's recipes, and if it wouldn't go bad my mom's matar paneer, bindi and roti, toor dal and rice, kulfi, and green chutney.

3. This year has been one of transition, a very slow evolution of self professionally, romantically, emotionally, physically. It has been a year of taking responsibility, learning to let go, seeing how I cause what happens in my life, etc.

14 years from now is a random time frame. 14 years from now I hope that I am sharing my life with someone who values and respects me. Maybe we have children or I'm a really cool Anu Aunty. I spend my time surrounding myself with people and activities that bring me joy and I'm no longer afraid of taking a step forward.
